On September 24, 2026, the Center for the Determination of Optical Properties (ZOE) will open its doors for the ZOE Open House – a full-day event bringing together industry and research. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the program will showcase the latest developments in optical imaging, sensing, and light propagation while providing plenty of opportunities for professional exchange and networking.
The Center for the Determination of Optical Properties (ZOE) combines experimental and theoretical expertise in the characterization of optical materials. Our core competencies include the precise measurement of scattering and absorption, the theoretical modeling of light propagation, and the development and fabrication of customized optical phantoms for research and industrial applications.
Experience applied research at ILM firsthand and gain insights into innovative methods and projects that reflect more than 30 years of expertise in Quantitative Imaging and Sensing.
The ZOE Open House features the following expert presentations::
| Introduction and Overview: Fundamentals of Light Propagation in Turbid Media | Prof. Dr. Alwin Kienle |
| Measuring with Precision: Methods for Determining Optical Properties | Dr. Florian Foschum |
| Optical Phantoms: Applications from System Calibration to Tissue Simulation | Johannes Mäder |
| Structured Light: From 3D Imaging to the Determination of Optical Properties | Dr. Peter Naglic |
| From Model to Image: An Introduction to Physically Based Rendering | Philipp Nguyen |
| From Research to Real-World Applications: Practical Projects from 30 Years of QIaS | Dr. Dominik Reitzle |
You will also have the opportunity to join guided tours of the ZOE in small groups and enjoy plenty of time for professional exchange, discussion, and networking in a relaxed atmosphere.
As places are limited, we recommend registering early.
