Homogeneous optical phantoms are an essential instrument in research and imaging. Their composition is based on matrix materials such as epoxy resin, silicone, gelled water/glycerine and quartz glass. These starting materials allow the integration of a variety of scatterers and absorbers to achieve customised optical properties. The optical parameters, including the absorption coefficient (µa), the reduced scattering coefficient (µs'), the anisotropy factor (g) sowie der Brechungsindexand the refractive index (n), can be freely selected as required and adapted to the specific requirements of the samples. It is possible for the customer to define the target values or for the ILM to adapt them to the materials to be imitated.
The standard geometries available in various diameters and thicknesses (e.g. cylinders and cubes) can also be realised in more complex structures according to customer specifications. For verification and quality control purposes, the optical properties are precisely measured and documented in the institute's own centre for optical properties. Typical areas of application include the calibration of imaging systems, the validation and verification of measuring devices and use as a benchmark for physics-based rendering.
Reproducibility: Homogeneous phantoms enable consistent and repeatable measurements, which is crucial for the calibration and validation of e.g. imaging systems.
Controlled properties: The optical parameters, especially the absorption and scattering coefficients, can be adjusted according to the customer's specific requirements.
Versatility: The use of different matrix materials as well as scatterers and absorbers allows the realisation of a variety of spectral responses.
Standardised geometries: The available shapes, including cylinders and cubes, enable a variety of applications as well as customisation to specific requirements.
Quality control: Precise measurement and determination of optical properties ensure high accuracy and reliability.
